Riddle of the Sphinx: the lost chapter

The known answer to the Riddle of the Sphinx is Man, and that is what the constellation Aquarius is after all, only the God of Rain.

My puzzle consists of a number of pieces, but putting them altogether including this one should prove to be difficult, but there's also a lost chapter that might contain the original answer to the Sphinx riddle since it's made of many more parts than a man is, because it also includes the wings of an eagle, the body of a lion, and the tail of a serpent?
