One of the first AI's could play chess because that's one of the first things we taught computers, but computers eventually passed human intelligence and became smarter when Deep Blue beat a Grandmaster at chess in 1997, but what happens when the machine becomes obsolete, and is removed like Deep Blue was after it won?
I don't know if machines will replace humans someday, but the progress can be delayed sometimes depending on what we do about it, and whether we're smarter than the machine?
