Blocking my opponent

Today I played a couple games of chess including a game against a real opponent where I thought I had a checkmate idea, but it was too ballsy and didn't go according to plan, so I lost my queen, and I still thought I had a crazy sacrifice move that would win the game, but it was no good? My mistake and my opponent wanted a rematch, but I already played the game to the end anyway, and didn't feel like losing to him again, but maybe I'll win in the future if I'm more careful, but deliberate?
So I played another game with the computer for practice, and in the last game I won by blocking black's rook with white's bishop while protecting it with one of my rooks and keeping black's king trapped while delivering a checkmate with my other rook after avoiding black's bishop attack.
