Blind spot!

Today I was playing OTB while playing a computer with a higher rating, and for awhile it seemed like I was staying ahead of my opponent, only I didn't see several moves ahead of that opponent like for instance the checkmate before it was too late and my opponent won?

Next time I will play a different move instead of moving my pawn I should have moved my rook to my bishop which would have protected my king as well, but we can learn from this!
